Product Creation

Q: How do I know your ingredients are safe?

A: Our products are made from a combination of naturally and synthetically sourced components, including essential oils, aroma chemicals, and absolutes; all materials are always used within IFRA safety recommendations. We only source our fragrance components from reputable vendors! Products are tested on the F&C team and other human testers, but never on animals. (If you're interested in being one of our product testers, follow us on Instagram for upcoming testing opportunities!)

Q: Do your fragrances contain phthalates?

A: None of our fragrances contain the unsafe phthalates which are listed in California's Proposition 65 or banned from children's toys by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (source). A few of our fragrances may contain diethyl phthalate (DEP); HOWEVER, DEP has been determined to be safe for use in cosmetics by the FDA (source) and IFRA (source). It is not on the Prop 65 list or the CPSC ban list. If you would like more information on this or would like to know which fragrances in our current offering contain DEP, just email us, we're happy to help!

Q: Wait, what is IFRA?

A: IFRA is the International Fragrance Association. Like many other fragrance/bath & body makers, we choose to follow the standards set by IFRA to provide a safer experience for customers.

Q: How do I know your process is safe?

A: Our products are created in a climate-controlled workspace which has a standalone air filter running 24/7 in addition to the filter in the HVAC system. We also wear hair nets when creating and packaging our products. While we do own pets, we take every precaution to keep our space hair- and dander-free, including running multiple air filters, never allowing them into the studio, and sanitizing surfaces before beginning our work. If you have allergies or other sensitivities, please consult your physician before ordering.

Q: How do I know your mica and coconut powders are ethically sourced?

A: We purchase our mica from Nurture Soap and Mad Micas, both of which responsibly and ethically source their micas. You can read more about Mad Micas' practices here, and we have been informed by Nurture Soap that a public statement is forthcoming. Our coconut oil supplier is a member of the Coconut Coalition of the Americas, which certifies they do not use trained monkey labor to harvest their coconuts. Additionally, we have received written confirmation from our coconut milk powder supplier that there is no monkey labor in their supply chain, either.

Q: Is animal testing used in any of your ingredients? Are they considered vegan?

None of our suppliers perform animal testing, and we certainly do not either! Additionally, none of our ingredients contain animal byproducts and to the best of our knowledge can be considered vegan. (Several suppliers classify themselves as vegan across the board, and others refer to you the information available for each individual product - by both measures, we have no non-vegan products.)

Order Process 

Q: Do you offer gift cards?

We do, they can be purchased here!

Q: Do you ship internationally?

A: As of November 2021, we are only able to ship to the USA and Canada. Some regions such as the UK and the EU have many rules and restrictions in place for US businesses sending cosmetic items abroad, which is great protection for the consumer, but difficult (and sometimes very expensive) for us to navigate as a small business. At this time we cannot make any guarantees as to adding other countries for shipment at this time.

We will not mark international orders as gifts for customs purposes and will declare the full value of your order on the customs form. We know that customs fees can be quite pricey sometimes - please research the fees for your country/region ahead of time so you're not unpleasantly surprised when your order crosses the border! As the buyer you will be responsible for full payment of them.

Q: I need just a few more things! Can I combine orders?

A: Please email us with the order numbers you’d like to combine, and we’ll do our best to help out.

Q: Can I cancel my order?

A: Sorry, as a small business it's difficult for us to accept cancellations because everything is planned and made to order based on our current order queue. In the event that we exceed the TAT advertised to you at the time of your order, we will email you and offer you the option to cancel or wait for your products. You can check your emailed order confirmation to see what the advertised TAT was/is.

Q: Can I return my order?

A: Unfortunately, due to the nature of our products we cannot accept returns. If your order is refused (whether domestically, or internationally due to nonpayment of customs fees) and returned to us unopened, Fable & Canon reserves the right to retain the original shipping costs as well as a 20% restocking fee due to the time and labor that initially went into packing your order.

Q: What do I do if my order arrives damaged/items are defective?

A: For product damage, please take pictures of the outside of the box, as well as the damaged items, and email us.

For defective items, please take pictures of the items and email us letting us know what’s wrong.

In both cases, please contact us within a week of receiving your package so we can resolve things for you quickly.

Q: Can my order be sent to someone else as a gift?

A: Absolutely! Just let us know in the checkout notes. Our packing slips contain a billing address but no prices. We’re also happy to include a gift note with your order, just let us know in the notes at checkout what you’d like it to say. 🥳

Q: I want one of your scents in a different product/format than what’s currently offered, is this possible?

A: Please reach out to us and we will do our best to accommodate you! (Please note that depending on the IFRA usage rate for the components we may not be able to accommodate all requests, but we’ll certainly try.)

Q: Do you include free samples with orders?

A: We love including free samples, and try to do so whenever our sample stock and workload allow! Some samples might be product especially made for sampling, some might be new scents we're playing around with, and some might be "imperfect" products that will function just fine but have a cosmetic flaw or two.

Q: What are these candies in my order?

A: We include candy when our workload (and candy stockpile 😊) allows, but try to always pick ones with the least amount of allergens possible. Here are the candies we've sent out up until now, including their ingredients.

  • Dum-Dums: perhaps not the most ✨aesthetic✨ choice, but Dum-Dums are free of the top nine major allergens, including sesame! They are also OU Kosher certified.
    • Sugar, Corn Syrup, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Salt, Artificial Flavor, Color Added, (Includes: Red 40, Yellow 6, Yellow 5, Blue 1)
  • Green Tea Latte candies: Contain milk.
    • Glucose Syrup (tapioca), Cane Sugar, Tea Extract, Natural Tea Flavor, Salt.
  • Classic Iced Tea candies
    • Glucose syrup (tapioca), cane sugar, tea extract, natural tea flavor, salt.
  • Bob's Sweet Stripes:
    • Sugar, Peppermint Oil*, Red 40, Red 40 Lake.

Product Use

Q: What's this about "resting" my perfume?

A: Perfume can undergo a lot of temperature and humidity changes in the mail. While all products are sent ready to be used right away, you may find that your experience testing a scent improves if you let new scents "rest" in a cool, dark spot for a few days between delivery and testing!

Q: Will your products stain my tub?!

A: Our coconut milk bath and embellishing dust contain Polysorbate 80 which helps disperse oils and colors in the tub, avoiding that dreaded "tub ring". However, one of the single best things you can do to prevent this is give your tub a quick scrub + rinse before taking a bath with a pigmented product. Pigment sticks to residue/soap scum, so a clean tub will go a long way in having an easy clean up! Giving your tub a rinse after you drain your bath can help too.

Q: I’m pregnant/breastfeeding, can I use your products?

A: Please consult with your physician before ordering. We want you and your little one to be safe, and we are not qualified to provide that medical advice to you! 

Q: What if I have a weird reaction to one of your products?

A: While we take every precaution when sourcing and manufacturing our products, and all our fragrances are certified to be safe for their particular use, everyone's skin is different and unfortunately you may still experience skin sensitivity, irritation, or other reactions. If this happens to you while using one of our products, please discontinue use immediately

Q: This smells so good, is it edible?!

A: No, please do not ingest any of our products.
